Dominic Cooper and Emily Browning join Dan Stevens in a true, tragic love story played out amongst a group of celebrated Newlyn artists, including  Alfred Munnings & Laura Knight.

Until 8 June, Penlee Gallery is showing a special exhibition bringing together paintings by the artists working in Newlyn and around the Lamorna Valley, giving depth to the story portrayed in the film and putting it in context with the lives and work of the main protagonists’ circle.  It includes poignant memorabilia, such as Gilbert Evans’s personal diaries on which the story of the book and film are based.  There are also photographs of the real-life characters, which vividly portray the artists’ lives in pre-WW1 Cornwall.

Jonathan Smith, the author, is down for Cornwall’s open studio weekend on 27th May talking about the making of the film and story.
