Carn Base: 3-Bedroom Holiday Cottage

Sennen Cove, Land's End, West Cornwall

Self catering holiday cottage, Sennen Cove, dogs welcome

Carn Base, named after the rocky bank which lies 2 miles SSW of the Longships lighthouse, is a 3 bedroomed contemporary bungalow just yards from the beach in Sennen Cove.  From the lounge there are views of the golden sands and azure seas of Whitesand Bay.  The setting is quiet and secluded despite being only a stone's throw from the seafront.  Remember to pack your buckets and spades and your surfboard - Sennen has one of the best surfing beaches in the area.

The garden is in ideal place to enjoy an al fresco meal following a day of walking the coastal path, building sandcastles, swimming or surfing - there is an outside tap ideal for washing off wetsuits.

An evening walk along the cliffs for a drink at the Land's End hotel, whilst taking in breathtaking scenery along the coast, would make a perfect end to the day.

Sennen Cove's facilities include the lifeboat station (a must for the children), The Round House gallery, The Old Success pub, the Boathouse Stores selling essentials including Cornish pasties!, a couple of cafes, a fish and chip shop, a surf school and the excellent Beach Restaurant.  The bus stop is about 50 yards away where you can catch the open top bus to St. Ives.  So, you could easily park your car in your private parking space, adjacent to the property, and leave it there for the duration of your stay!

Dogs Welcome

In the last year I have had quite a few complaints from owners about the way properties have been left when dogs have been there.  So, to try and prevent any owners from changing their minds about accepting dogs, it would be helpful if you could have a look at the following suggestions:

  • Don’t allow your dogs to damage furniture and fittings – bring a throw if you know they will go on furniture or beds
  • Clean up any dog hair
  • Don’t leave dogs in the property alone if you know they are likely to scratch the paintwork or bark incessantly
  • Pick up after your pets in the garden
  • Bring a towel to wipe your pet if they get wet or muddy
  • Ensure that dogs arrive free of fleas and freshly groomed to ensure there are no lingering smells

Carn Base is detached with a private garden set about 30 yards back from the road.  The garden is not enclosed so dogs will need to be supervised.  The property is suitable for a maximum of two dogs unless they are very small and they should be caged if left in the property when you go out.  There are beaches within walking distance which are not subject to the dog ban.  Tide tables are available.

Dog friendly information for the area

All the properties on this site are situated either adjacent or just minutes away from a network of paths including the main coastal path.

Some beaches ban dogs from Easter to the end of September but allow dogs on the beach in the early morning and evening.  The rules in St. Ives are being changed to ban dogs all year round on most of their beaches.  Beaches nearby which do accept dogs all year round are Nanjizel, Pedn Vounder, Gwenver, Priests Cove, Boat Cove, Portheras Cove, Long Rock, and Porthkidney Sands .  See map for current arrangements.
